west with the night

I have learned that if you must leave
a place that you have lived in and loved
and where all your yesterdays
are buried deep...

leave it any way except a slow way
leave it the fastest way you can

never turn back.
and never believe that an hour
you remember is a better hour
because its dead.

passed years seem safe ones, vanquished ones,
while the future lives in a cloud,
formidable from a distance.

the clouds clear as you enter it

I have yearned all of my life to live in NYC. I visit every year around my birthday (fellow Sag)and sadly, I think it will remain but a dream. Life some times gets in the way of dreams. At least, for a glorius weekend I always have Manhattan. Lovely blog.

I love the photo of the girl sitting precariously on the edge - that could have been me 20 years ago...(I actually had to double take)

I just love that picture of the people running through the museum. Like they need an art fix fast or they might die.

I'm glad! The running image is from the film "band of outsiders" by Godard. An exceptional scene.

My jaw dropped when I read the text--and then I saw it was beryl markham. Of course...Doesn't she just seem timeless and epic? I just wish she'd left more behind.

Excellent choice of photos, but which came first: text or images?

This made me cry, but I'm not sure is it because it made me sad or happy. I'm always afraid of the future. Courage is your message? Love it. Needed it.

Reading this blog is the only time I really miss smoking. It's funny, I've been wanting to post the dance scene from Band of Outsiders. Thanks for this little silent movie.
