the things we carry
people carry lots of different things
but there is nothing like that
one notebook in your bag
where you scribble
names, numbers,
discoveries,
lists.

Forget pristine,
doodle on your furniture.

the jewel thief
"I knew how to dress,"
said Ms. Payne.
"I never did like ruffles and frills.
I just like a simple-cut fine material
that moves when I move."
No one sums up
fashion better than:
Doris Payne
The now 77 yr old thief
recounts her 5-decades of
stealing diamonds.
Doris pocketed her first
diamond at 27 and says
the trick of the trade
is pure & simple:
grace and elegance
She cited gone with the wind
as her inspiration to dress so
immaculate and chic.
nothing too elaborate.
a wide-brimmed hat
or a well-cut dress
would do the
trick.
other possible influences?
Maggie Cheung in Irma Vep. 1996
Louis Feuillade's Les Vampires. 1915
and Bonnie Parker of Bonnie & Clyde. 1967

the ESPRIT era:
1. Esprit's Graphic Work 1984-1986
2. Esprit : the Comprehensive Design Principle
Olivero Toscani
Roberto Carra
Tamotsu Yagi
PS:
these books are a bit dated now,
but ESPRIT had a vision and had one
of the most innovative graphic
campaigns of all time.
Benetton too.
Oliviero went on to
launch COLORS magazine
and has yet another, youthful idea.
As for ESPRIT: a past-time.
