- robert de niro, taxi driver (1976)

nyc is white glove
clean these days

you know
a lot of new yorkers
who lived here in the 70's / 80's
have an uncanny nostalgia
for the old filthy gotham.

i've heard a lot
of stories.

a taxi driver once
told me with light in his eyes
"it was a dirty town, man, but
the city had soul...i can't
explain it. soul baby."

I watched it last night and became nostalgic for the old New York.

Thanks for sharing.

I not exactly old but old enough to remember graffiti on the subways, forbidden neighborhoods, local shops run by crazy characters and patronized by even crazier ones, and when night fell the energy in the city was really powerful.

what is it about the dirty, soulful cities that makes them so influential on so many levels?

the white glove clean hasn't spread to every corner of this city! don't forget about the most diverse place on this planet. queens. seems sad to lament the lost east village when some of the most incredible new york experiences are just a few stops out on the 7.
