went to sea
to beat the heat
to beat the heat
saturday's dinner
was fresh blue fish
with chopped tomatoes
and basil butter sauce
there's nothing
better than catching
your dinner.
keeping only
what you
can eat
when you
watch the last pass
of air through the gills
of a fish you find yourself
making a promise with the order
of nature to take responsibility
for the life you've taken.
if we all knew
the source of what
we consume, we would
not consume as much
as we do.
life is precious
and I'm guilty
of not taking this
seriously everyday

i just couldnt take the life away, but if your going to, this is the best way to do it.
how true... we all are. we all forget. sometimes it must even happen something realy awful to remember it
Such an inspiring blog!
thank you for this reminder...I too am guilty...
beautiful images...
Knowing the source has little to do with how, why, what we eat. We are narcissistic creatures and we will take what we will. Demographics will ruin the ecosystem and then you won't be able to catch your fish from the perch of a motor boat.
I can empathize with what you say. I can feel that pull within me too, that longing for what is true, for the essence of life. Yet, I hope you can look at yourself with kindness too. After all, we are just humans, we fail, we forget, but that in itself makes us beautiful.

I'm really taken by this. Stunning words. That's how I feel for everything I take from the wild.

no offense, but it's pretty easy to be hip with money, when you can go anywhere, buy anything. the real trick is being hip when you're poor.
