This post reminds me of a favorite book called
"CRAFTING A MODERN WORLD"
The title says it all and your post would fit right-in the pages. I got the book a few years ago and have not seen it around since. For anyone interested in the area of Design/Craft...I highly recommend getting your hands on a copy. Part Robinson Crusoe, part Le Corbusier.
