morning commute

don't spill that coffee

there's nothing
quite like entering nyc
via grand central station.

its historic, its iconic.
its a morning routine.

today,
a lot of us work
from home...

on our computers.

rarely are there coffee spills
and rarely do you get newsprint
on your fingers.

it can be lonely.

Love these photos- what a throwback! I used to commute to Manhattan every day, but to Penn Station... not quite as glamorous as Grand Central.

the man in the grey flannel suit was never very happy.

But isn't it strange to see so many men, no women

So, does this mean you have returned to NYC?... CA sometimes can be a blissful unreality...

oh this is just perfect! this is what i remember when i think about my former commute, romanticizing every detail to the point where all time and space goes out the window. when i first graduated college, i moved to a family apt westchester county and took a job as an intern for a fashion designer in midtown. everyday i would wake up, take the train into grand central, sit next to the connecticut business men in their perfectly cut saville row suits, warm leather briefcases, and the WSJ. so very romantic. i must have stood out like a sore thumb! I kind of miss those sticky blue train chairs. thank you for this!

the statement "human interaction is mostly virtual" and the (perceived) disappointment with this fact is quite ironic coming from a blog that dates back to 2007.

one can be lonely doing anything- whether its sitting in your room working from home or working in an office surrounded by people.

also- the romanticizing of a nyc train/subway commute is shotty at best.

The first time I came into Grand Central, I expected to see Cary Grant.

I don't know why.

in my experiences commuting on trains, i found it could be lonely on a train packed with people. so many people, no communication. everyone staring off into space, in their own heads, thinking about their day.

it was rare to find someone who wanted to talk, to whom i'd quickly, yet politely reply before continuing staring off into space.

Love this. I live in LA and get lonely in my car. All day, All the time. It's so boring. Nothing starts a day like a trip on public transport. It really screams....GOOG MORNING!

sometimes I miss those train journeys, so long ago, just music in my head and thoughts of what will be.

p.s. I like your new woodstack.
