I agree! Back in undergrad, I took a book arts class and we did Japanese marbling. We added colored inks too.

this is stunning.... it reminds me of a tree's rings.... something so perfectly natural, and yet, so enchanting that it can be recreated only in a technique like this. thanks so much for sharing this instrument in simplicity.
